Remediation of
Volatiles Compounds and Solvents
Town of Middlebury, Elkhart County, Indiana
The Middlebury EMS site included volatile organic and solvent
contaminated subsurface soils and groundwater in the
heart of this small town. The initial investigation and cleanup effort was
started by a major consultant who failed to bring remedy and closure to
the site. In 2000, after an expenditure of approximately $385,000 of taxpayer
dollars, Superior Environmental was invited by the town to troubleshoot the
remediation process. Our team brought full closure to the site location and
it is now used as children's playground in a public park.

Leaking Tank Cleanup & Main Aquifer Rehab
Marathon of Valparaiso,
Valparaiso, Indiana
This is a leaking underground storage tank site that consisted of contaminated
subsurface soil and groundwater. The main aquifer in the area of the site
was heavily contaminated with petroleum fractions. Two major consultants
failed to bring remedy after six years of cleanup
operations. Our team assumed responsibilities in 2000 and we assisted our
client by conducting calibrated plume fate & transport models. Based on
our accurate understanding of the subsurface, we devised a site-specific
remedial technology. Our cost-effective and timely remedial design and
implementation prevented the arrival of contaminants at nearby drinking
water wells. Our team eliminated the client’s liability and provided substantial
