True Natural Bio-Remediation
(Bio Phase I & BIO-WORKS)Bioremediation is as old as life itself. Superior Environmental favors the
use of bioremediation over other remedies when applicable since bioremediation
has the potential to transform pollutants into innocuous products rather
than transferring contaminants from one environmental medium to another.
However, in bioremediation one size DOES NOT fit all. There is no magical
generic pouch to cure a site of its pollutants.
For that purpose, Superior Environmental employed the brightest in
microbiology to establish and execute our “True Natural Bioremediation”
which we
call BIO-WORKS. BIO-WORKS is a unique process, where the bacteria used in
the remedy is extracted from the contaminated media (site-specific
remedy).
A contaminated soil or groundwater sample is provided to our microbiologist, where natural
degraders for the contaminant(s) of concern are identified and isolated, then cultured into colony forming units (CFUs).
The fresh natural bacteria are re-injected into the
contaminated media. Once the contaminants are depleted, the population of the
newly injected bacteria is naturally decreased to the normal levels prior to the
bioremediation startup.
Therefore, our BIO-WORKS Process is a contaminant-specific and
site-specific process.
Each bioremediation
project we execute undergoes three extensive steps:
-
Screening:
Each project is studied to determine the natural and baseline physical and
chemical characteristics. During this phase our professionals utilize the
available computer simulation programs in our library to assist them in
gaining a better understanding of the subsurface. We simply call this step
Bio Phase I.
-
Preparation:
If Screening results are promising for successful bioremediation, then our
field personnel collect an environmental sample from the contaminated
media, and our microbiologist goes to work.
-
Installation:
This step is executed jointly between the microbiologist and the field
hydrogeologist to ensure the correct delivery of the prepared natural strain(s) at the right place. During this step, our project
hydrogeologist prepares site-specific flow and transport models to
ensure uniform distribution of bacteria.
